It took some time for Honghong’s parents to count his fingers and toes when he was born. It was not normal: the boy was born with 15 fingers and 16 toes. It was a case of polydactyly, a congenital condition, according to Xiaoxiang Morning Post. The boy, who has turned three months now, inherited the condition from his mother who has six fingers and toes each on both sides. After seeing their son’s condition, the parents are now desperately seeking help – they have accumulated a pile of medical records from a dozen of hospitals across southern China. A doctor in a hospital in Hunan also advised them to take their child to surgery between six months to before he turned one. However, the parents’ hopes are now dashed by rising medical costs. Honghong’s surgery will cost the couple about 100,000 yuan (15,390 US dollars). After their story appeared in Chinese social media, many netizens are rallying to seek help and also asking the government to assist Honghong and his family. #polydactyly #baby #rare #China
